Set Yourself Free

Do you feel like you’re always behind because you’re burdened with too much to do? Are there people, activities, and commitments that are draining you?

I know I feel that way sometimes. I have so much going on this year that when even the little things go wrong, it can seem like too much. When this happens, it means that there are too many things taking your life energy, and you’re depleted.

Each year that passes it seems more and more is expected from us. My solution to handle this is to cut away some of the time-sucking activities and energy-draining people.

This means that I’m consciously deciding to release some old relationships in both my business and personal life that are no longer rewarding and beneficial to me. This will make room for new energy to come into my life. We can’t hold on to things that aren’t working for us and expect new and better things to come into our lives.

If you haven’t thought about purging some things and people this year, maybe now is the time to consider it. Think about the people, things, and activities that take up space in your life. How do you feel about them? What things can you purge to make your life easier?

For example, I’m releasing “friends” on Facebook who aren’t actually my friends and who constantly bombard me with requests. I’m releasing newsletter subscriptions that I no longer use or don’t know how I got on, as well as projects and clients that are not beneficial to me or my business.

If you have “friends” who drain you or don’t honor your time and energy, it’s time to re-evaluate the relationship and focus that energy on yourself and your business. Ask yourself: “How does it feel to have this person’s energy in my space?” If the answer is not a positive one, gently release him or her and make room for incredible people to enter.

If you have stuff cluttering your office or home, donate it so it can be put to good use. I recently donated tons of stuff that I simply wasn’t using anymore, and it felt great to do so.

Ask yourself how you can streamline your business. If you’ve committed to projects that aren’t really working out, it’s time to focus on those that will be profitable for you. If you have vendors who have gone to sleep on the job, it’s time to replace them. If you have staff members who aren’t productive, it’s time to re-evaluate their employment, whether they need to be replaced or trained better. Are there new systems you can put in place to increase productivity and profits?

The real question is this: What things can you do to make your life happier, easier, and more effective, and to keep you from feeling like you’re behind and burdened with too much to do?

Take the time to evaluate your life and business because the truth will set you free! What are you willing to give up to make this year a better year for you?
