One-Stop Summer Fun

Hot Summer Trends

Think COLOR. I’m talking citrus fruit; some orange, bright yellow, green, coral, turquoise, and mint. Cropped colored jeans are great with a neutral flowy or lacey top. Bold blocks of color in stripes or floral patterns are perfect with a chunky necklace as a completing piece to your outfit. An embellished gladiator sandal (with perhaps a heel on it) is just right for any occasion! Be fun and confident. Let loose with color this summer!

Summer Lovin’

My out-of-town boyfriend came to visit the 757 this week. Come to find out, there’s so much to do around here! We went strawberry picking out in Pungo and picked up some other fresh fruit there too. There are so many lakes and rivers in Hampton Roads (besides just Virginia Beach) to go kayaking or canoeing, as well as parks for picnicking and walking trails. We really enjoyed exercising together and pushing each other to go the extra mile to be the best we can be. If you’re looking for something to do with a friend or love interest, anything active and outdoors is the best way to take advantage of the beautiful weather and build memories as you both try something new or are challenged together. Dinner and a movie are nice, but don’t be afraid to mix it up!

Safety First

Sunscreen! While at the beach, the pool, or in the yard this summer, remember to lather up and not get burned. We hear it everywhere, but skin cancer is serious business. I finally decided this past year to get my act together after too much time in the tanning bed in high school when I realized that damaging your body to achieve a certain look or feel is not self-respecting and not worth it. A possible alternative is to get that sun kissed, bronzed look is through a lotion or a spray, my favorite being Neutrogena micromist airbrush tan. It sells for less than $10, gives an even, non-orange spray, and takes only a few minutes to use. Save your skin and your time.

Delightful Dish

There are so many amazing meals to enjoy during grilling season, but let’s face it, most of the time we’re too busy to find a healthy alternative. Now be warned that I have never been comfortable in the kitchen. I am the college student that burns microwavable Mac and cheese. However, this recipe I found (and have successfully used!) is nearly fool-proof, quick to make, 30 g of protein and only 200 calories. Fresh fish and veggies are delicious for the summertime and are a great way to get those heart-healthy omega 3s that we all need. It’s called “Fish in Foil”.

  1. Preheat oven at 375°.
  2. Put tilapia on a sheet of aluminum foil.
  3. Squeeze lemon juice over the fish; then sprinkle Old Bay and pepper on top.
  4. Place cut lemon slices on top of fish.
  5. Rinse asparagus. Break off ends. Put asparagus vertically on top of fish to cover it.
  6. Fold ends of foil together, but leave a little room inside for steaming. Bake for 15 minutes. ENJOY.
