Sound healing is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to create balance and harmony in the physical and energetic bodies. According to physics, everything in the living universe vibrates at its own frequency. The human body is comprised of a vast array of frequencies found in all of the tissues, muscles, bones, and organs. When the human body’s frequencies are weak or out of balance, disharmony in our body’s systems can occur, creating fatigue, stress and dis-ease.
The therapeutic application of sound can change dis-harmonious frequencies in the body back to their original healthy vibration. Studies show that certain sound frequencies reduce stress and anxiety, enhance the immune system, lower blood pressure, balance brainwaves, promote deeper breathing, relieve muscle tension, produce endorphines (the body’s natural pain relievers), and induce relaxation.
Sound therapy affects not only the physical body, but also the mental, spiritual, and emotional bodies as well. When the brain receives sound waves, neurons release electrical impulses that create brainwave frequency patterns. These patterns influence the state of mind that we find ourselves in. This state of mind determines our emotions, and our emotions determine the energetic nature of our experience.
Our emotions and thoughts vibrate at frequencies and patterns that can be healthful or stressful. For example, negative thoughts and emotions can create the release of the stress hormone cortisol, suppressing the immune system and setting up an environment for dis-ease to occur. Sound healing therapy can quickly balance the emotions in order to generate more harmonious thoughts and feelings and in turn create greater health and harmony in the body and mind.
Sound therapy applications are many, and this ancient science is reemerging as quantum physics continues to discover its value as energy medicine. Because our body is made of approximately 70 percent water, it’s a natural super conductor for sound waves, which travel at the sound speed of 1,500 meters per second. The cellular fluid within each of our cells is stimulated with the sound vibration so our whole body is receiving the sound wave vibrations.
Sound therapy is being used for pain relief for a variety of disorders, including pain related to arthritis and cancer. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) uses sound waves to treat uterine fibroids and to remove prostatic cancer tumors without side effects. A Lithotripter machine breaks up gallstones using a specific sound frequency. Sound therapy also has proven beneficial results with stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, autism, Parkinson’s, circulation disorders, high blood pressure, tinnitus, and more.
Another wonderful application of sound therapy is for pre-natal. Expectant mothers can listen to sound therapy during pregnancy to soothe the whole body promoting better sleep, reduced stress, and more energy. When the expectant mother listens to sound therapy during her pregnancy, the benefits she receives are passed on to the fetus. This is because the effects of sound therapy are passed throughout the whole body, as the ear is connected to the vital pneumogastric (vagus) nerve.
Brainwave entrainment, another form of sound therapy, uses sound frequencies in specific rhythmic patterns to produce neural sensory stimulation that affect the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.
The brain naturally responds to sounds and rhythms measured in Hertz (Hz). The faster the movement, the more alert one is while slower rhythmic movement makes one less alert, leading to relaxation and sleep. These waves are called alpha, theta, delta, beta, and gamma.
Alpha waves quiet mental chatter and produce relaxation and meditative states. Theta is a more deeply relaxed state and accesses the subconscious. Delta waves are the slowest cycle and produce deep relaxation and sleep. Beta waves are our alert awake state for concentration, and cognition. Gamma waves are for high alert levels and problem solving.
The human body has four rhythmic pulse systems that are interconnected: our brainwaves, our heart pulse, our respiratory system, and the cranial fluid in the spine. When these four pulse systems are in sync in a coherent wave of energy, the body functions more optimally on a physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual level. Because these four pulse systems are interconnected, by using sound vibration entrainment patterns, we can “train” the brainwaves into a synchronized wave and bring all our bodies pulse systems into coherence. This brainwave synchronization quickly brings us into heart coherence, connecting our brain and our heart as well as our breath, and cranial fluid into one coherent pulse wave. This synchronization reduces muscle tension, fatigue, mental, and emotional stress; and brings the body and mind into deep relaxation, harmony, and balance.
Bringing our pulse systems into a coherent wave also puts us into sync with our natural environment. Through brainwave entrainment, we can feel more grounded and clear in our connection with life. It’s easy to use at home or at the office. Sound therapy via brainwave entrainment can be accessed with audio listening programs. This provides a safe and effective way for accessing the powerful healing, mental clarity, and rejuvenative effects of sound.
As more and more scientists are discovering, the entire universe is composed of vibrations. Brainwave entrainment is one of the most effective ways of tapping into the power of sound on a day-to-day basis and can enhance optimum health and wellness while maintaining harmonious balance in our lives.
